23.03.2009 -
In the European Year of Creativity and Innovation and for 8th of March the Trieste Region organized a multi-day event titled Spring of Women (Primavera di donne). A part of this female-themed event was a series of forum discussion focusing on history, science, entrepreneurship and design.
The forum discussion titled So I'm Not a Lady which took place on Saturday, 7 March was attended by art historians Laura Vasselli in Rossella Cuffaro, architects and designers Beatrice Mascellani, Gigetta Tamaro and Chiara Lamonarca (also the moderator), representative of the Trieste Contemporanea board Giuliana Carbi, representative of the Juliet design magazine Eleonora Garavello and the art critic Maria Camitelli.
Three representatives of young and innovative (yet completely different) design studios from Slovenia attended the event as special guests:
- Urška Draž of the Pletenine Draž fashion studio,
- Jasmina Ferček of Oloop Design, and
- Mojca Janželj Tomažič of, naturally, Kontrastika.
Mojca used her presentation titled Perception of the object. Perception of the person to showcase a few personal projects and at the same time outlined the process of bringing ideas born of these experiments to life. The audience was able to enjoy experiments leading to such projects as Kitchen Mops as an Art Project, Curtains of Memories, ProstoRož Children's Playgrounds in Ljubljana, as well as the projects such as labeling for Budič spirits, Vino 55 or the Gimnazija entvid yearbooks.
In the discussion that followed the attendees touched upon the opportunities that co-operation between (marriage) partners has in opposition with the former "wife in the shadow" stigma, and the fact that children are not necessarily a burden in a woman's career, but can present an inspiration that can make it flourish even more. |
